Gratitude is good for you.
Psychological studies consistently show that people who focus on what they are thankful for enjoy better physical health, more positive emotions, better adaptation to hardship, and stronger relationships.
So then, why are we so focused on our half-empty glasses?
Well, it could be your temperament. Some of us naturally tend to be a bit like this guy:
Even if you are going through something challenging right now, I know this much: You have good things in your life. You woke up this morning. Your heart is beating in your chest. God sees you and loves you every moment of every day. And so many of us have far greater blessings than these. Are we grateful for them? Especially in our marriages, are we grateful?
We all have flaws, and no relationship is perfect. No one likes it when their flaws are continually highlighted in a relationship while their good traits go unnoticed. We all know how good and motivating it can feel when someone sees the good in us, thanks us for our efforts, and is grateful for our presence in their lives.
Some small tweaks to your go-to behavior and go-to emptions can help strengthen your marriage.
