How to Make Jesus King of Your Home
Happy Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus! I thought today might be a good day to ask if you know about Sacred Heart enthronement, one of those cool Catholic things not everyone has heard of.
Enthronement is a formal way to consecrate yourself and your family to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, give His image a prominent place in your home, and make him King of your household. I did not know exactly what enthronement was until a few years ago when my good friend Emily Jaminet came on the Girlfriends podcast to talk about it. My family and I did it soon after, and now Jesus has a special spot in the middle of our home.
One of the things I love about our Sacred Heart enthronement is the daily reminder it provides. Whether it's lighting a candle for a special intention or simply passing by and seeing the image, it's a constant affirmation of our identity and belonging.
Our friend Father Jeff helped us do the enthronement (but you don’t have to have a priest to do it!), and he printed this declaration for us to sign. It now hangs on the wall near our Sacred Heart image. A precious piece of family history!
If you're intrigued by the concept of enthronement and want to learn more, I highly recommend visiting Welcome His Heart. This comprehensive website will not only remind you of the 12 promises Jesus makes to those devoted to his Sacred Heart, but it also provides you with the basics of how to have a home enthronement.
One last thing! Whether you do the enthronement or not, and no matter what else is going to fill your day today, will you take just one moment now to pray an act of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus?
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, to Thee I consecrate and offer up my person and my life, my actions, trials, and sufferings, that my entire being may henceforth only be employed in loving, honoring and glorifying Thee. This is my irrevocable will, to belong entirely to Thee, and to do all for Thy love, renouncing with my whole heart all that can displease Thee. Amen.
Happy Feast Day!
