My wild hospital ride (with more to come)

I’m finally going home! Soonish, I am promised. Probably most of you did not even know I was here.

Last Wednesday, I was traveling in NYC for work when I had sudden acute abdominal pain (well, maybe not that sudden…pay attention to your body, and don’t ignore pain!). I wound up going to the hosiptal by ambulance where I had an emergency appendectomy. I suffered various complications after surgery that led to my needing to stay many days longer. As of this writing, I have been at Jamaica Hospital in NYC for 9 days and counting. Not the NY trip I had planned for.

Thanks be to God, Dan was able to fly in and be with me. He is my forever hero for advocating for me and always taking such good care of me, no matter what. One thing I know now without a shadow of a doubt: That man loves me and will do anything for me. It’s a real blessing to be reminded of that.

I am so grateful to the many people who have been praying for me and to those of you who have reached out with words of encouragement and support. I have a million thoughts, observations, and reflections from this unexpected “retreat” and will be sharing them with you here in the coming weeks.

My dear friend Vinny Flynn and I had plans to share a live event with you this week, focused on Divine Mercy (stay tuned! still coming soon!). When I messaged him to cancel and told him about what was gong on with me, he replied:

“He maketh you lie down, so He must want some alone time with you to restore your soul. Just rest in His heart. He turns all things to good for those who love Him.”

As much as I don’t ever want to “lie down” like that again, I have to admit, God is good. He is so much better than I thought I already knew. He not just good; He is goodness itself. And after this horrific week, I’m more content than ever to go wherever he leads me.
