Ever notice how easily we cling—cling to plans, expectations, routines, comfort, even good things? Often, when something doesn’t go the way I imagined, I feel it. The tension, the frustration, the subtle panic of losing control.

That’s when I realize: my heart is too attached.

Detachment sounds cold or distant, but it’s not. In the spiritual life, detachment is a gift. It’s not about caring less—it’s about trusting more. It’s the freedom to let go of everything that isn’t God, so we can hold onto him with our whole hearts.

Below, I’m sharing a Scripture reflection on the ways we are “tied up” like Jesus’ donkey, a stunning work of classic art to accompany your Holy Week reflection, and an Easter Vigil ritual you can do at home. Let’s reflect together on what it means to live with open hands and hearts. How is God inviting us to loosen our grip—on control, on stuff, on outcomes—and rest more deeply in his will?
