🕊️ Seeking WISDOM: hearing God's voice in daily life
Celebrating moms, baking up sweetness, and a special playlist to grow in wisdom
Sometimes I wish God would just spell things out for me. A big, bold sign in the sky would be nice—anything to make the right decision feel clear and easy. But most days, life doesn’t work like that. God invites us to seek wisdom, and wisdom doesn’t shout. It whispers.
It shows up in prayer, in quiet moments of Scripture, in the gentle nudge to pause before reacting, or in the courage to ask someone we trust for advice. It grows slowly, deep in the soil of faith, humility, and patience.
This week, I’m sharing some thoughts about moms and Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom, a sweet honey treat, and a curated playlist to inspire us to grow in wisdom. Let’s slow down and seek the kind of wisdom that doesn’t come from the world, but from God alone. Where might God be speaking to us, even in places that feel confusing or hard? Together, let’s ask, listen, and learn to trust the quiet voice of truth.

🌸 Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom
Mother’s Day (May 11) is a beautiful moment to honor the women who have nurtured, taught, and guided us with love—and a perfect day to turn our hearts toward Our Blessed Mother, who carries the ancient and poetic title: Seat of Wisdom.
Why is Mary called the Seat of Wisdom?
Because she literally carried Jesus, the Eternal Word and Wisdom of God, within her womb. But even more than that, she lived her life with deep attentiveness to God's will. She “pondered all these things in her heart” (Luke 2:19), teaching us that wisdom doesn’t always shout; often, it listens, waits, and responds in faith.
Mary didn’t need the world’s credentials to be wise. She simply said yes to God and lived that yes with quiet courage, day by day. She is the model of wise motherhood: reflective, strong, compassionate, and always rooted in truth.
Let’s honor both our earthly mothers and our spiritual mother today. Whether your mother is near or far, living or deceased, let’s entrust her to the care of Mary, our mother and the Seat of Wisdom.
💬 Family Table Conversation
What’s the wisest thing your mom ever taught you?
This is a great conversation starter after Mass or at brunch. You might be surprised by the answers, and it’s a beautiful way to affirm the wisdom that has been passed on through generations.
🙏 Bonus Prayer
Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom, guide our thoughts and protect our hearts.
Help us to seek truth in all things, to listen deeply before we speak, and to respond with love when we are unsure. Teach us, as you taught Jesus, to live with compassion, humility, and trust in God’s perfect plan. Amen.
🐝 Sweet Wisdom Honey Cake
Inspired by Proverbs’ frequent references to honey and “pleasant words” (Prov 16:24), this sweet cake is the perfect teatime reminder that wise words nourish
3/4 cup honey divided
2 large eggs
1/2 cup vegetable oil or any neutral flavored oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup hot water
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350°F and grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan. In a mixing bowl, whisk 1/2 cup of the honey, oil, vanilla, and eggs. Add the hot water and stir until combined.
Add the flour, light brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon, and mix until smooth. Pour the batter into the greased pan and bake for 28-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center. Drizzle the remaining honey over the top of the warm cake and let cool completely before slicing and serving.
🙏 Prayer While Baking:
Lord, teach me to speak words that are sweet with your truth and full of kindness. May every conversation today reflect your wisdom. Amen.
🎶 A Playlist for Wisdom
There’s something about music that helps us slow down and listen in a deeper way. When our minds are racing or we’re overwhelmed with decisions, music can open our hearts to God’s quiet guidance, the kind of wisdom that doesn’t always come in words.
This playlist is designed to help you create space for prayer, reflection, and surrender. Let these songs be a gentle invitation to pause and invite God’s wisdom into your daily life:
Reflect As You Listen:
Where do I need God’s guidance in my life today?
Am I giving God space to speak—or just rushing through the noise?
What lyric stands out to me most, and why?
Is there a decision I’m facing that needs more prayer and less pressure?
My mom reminded me many times over the years that if I wanted others to listen to me and take an interest in what I was saying, then I needed to do that for them. It's been a life-long meditation. 💞
